About | The pergola is clad with hand-charred yakisugi (a Japanese method of wood preservation). After charring, we bushed each cedar plank to create a silky smooth finish - unlike most western designers who leave it incorrectly charred.

The yakisugi method works like creosote, preventing the wood from any decay due to water or pests.

As designer and project manager, I developed the project with the client, and constructed the pergola with a coworker.
